About John Saunders Palmer, M.D.
Son of Thomas Palmer and Harriet Jerman and husband of Esher Simons Palmer (m.1830). He was educated at Pineville Academy, South Carolina College, and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New York and practiced briefly with Dr. Samuel Cordes in St. James Santee. However, he spent most of his life planting cotton and rice at Lenud's Ferry on the Santee. He was a member of the South Carolina House and Senate and signed the Ordinance of Secession."
