John Park and wife came to Utah in John Taylor's company 1847 "John Park was born at Cumbersland near Glasgow,Scotland. Emigrated to Canada with his father about 1821. Took up and cleared land upon which the village of Walford (now stands) Lambone Co,Ont,Canada. Left there in 1846 and journeyed on to Winter Quarters, Neb. near Omaha - wintered there. Then on to Salt Lake Valley in Bishop Hunter's Co. arriving in October 1847. Moved to provo in 1849 where he with his family of wife Louesa Smith P. and 4 small daughters Jane, Marian, Mary Ann, Louesa (born at Winter Quarters). Passed through all the trials of pioneer life. Was very prudent and industrious. Was the father of eleven children - 6 girls and 5 boys of which grew to maturity." Mormon pioneer of 1847. Reportedly, the last survivor of the treks of that year. She was four at the time of her arrival in Salt Lake Valley, Utah and died at age 98.

Summary: Typewritten copy of Mary's biography of her parents, but the bulk of the account is autobiographical. Mary tells of coming to Utah in 1847 including incidents en route. She tells of the early settlement of Salt Lake City and Provo, Utah including problems with Indians, crickets and grass hoppers, and the difficult living conditions.

The first fifty, also known as the John Taylor Company, arrived in Salt Lake City on September 29 1847.
