Note: John's birth date sometimes appears as 15 Dec 1651, but Newton Vital Records clearly record it as February 15. Doubtless, the mistake is due to misunderstandings relating to the old Julian calendar, under which February was the twelfth month of the year, not the second; the Julian New Year was March 25, but March was still considered the first month. This is demonstrated by Francis Jackson ("History of the Early Settlement of Newton, County of Middlesex, Massachusetts") who lists John's birth (p. 376) as: "John, Camb. Village, 15. 12. 1651".
