About John Parramore, Sr

John Parramore came to the Virginia Colony in 1622 as a servant of John Blore. From the ship's log, the Bona Venture, we know that his age was 17 at the time, which means he was born about 1605. In the early court records of Accomack County, Virginia we find John Parramore mentioned several times; sometimes for some misdemeanor and others in suits for payment. He married Elizabeth Drake, youngest daughter of Robert and Joan (Gawton) Drake. In the records it is mentioned that John was the cowkeeper a the pen of Lade Dale and at her death in 1641, he was owed back salary.

John was born in 1607 at England.1,2 John Parramore arrived in Virginia on the Bona Nova in 1622 and was listed on the Eastern Shore, aged 17, as a servant of John Blore in the muster of 1624/5. 

His first appearance in the court records of N'hamp County, the Accomacke) was on 19 Feb 1634/5 when he was ordered to pay 100 pounds of tobacco to John Graves.1 On 27 Mar 1637 a N'hamp Court ordered him to repay David Windley 7 bushels of corn for 4 months and odd days victuals for his wifes diet and to repay to Henry Williams a half barrel of corn lent to mayntyne himself and his wife 2 monthes.1

He married Jane Drake, daughter of Robert Drake and Joane Gawton, before 1640 at Accomack Co, VA.

He married the Jane Parramore who was cited 5 Jun 1640 for failure to appear in court to answer a complaint of John Deereman for abusive language..1 On 30 Aug 1642 he was referred to as "cowkeeper at the Penn comanly called my Lady Dale's Penn." The estate of Dame Elizabeth Dale was on 30 Oct 1643 ordered to pay him 120 pounds of tobacco, 2 1/2 barrels of corn, 3 barrels of Indian corn, a clothe shute and a coate of 30 shillings price in England, 2 pair of shoes, 2 pair of stockings and 2 shirts for wages due.1

He married Elizabeth Drake, daughter of Robert Drake and Joane Gawton, circa 1644. They lived on a 200-acre plantation at Maggoty Bay which had been patented by her father, but in July 1654 he was directed to surrender the plantation to Richard Hill who had married Elizabeth's sister Mary Drake..1 He married (-----) Mayden circa 1654.3 John bought land on 30 September 1654 at Occahannock Creek, Acc Co, VA. It was on this date that John Parramore bought 250 acres on the south side of Occahannock Creek..1

He married Mary Cutting, daughter of John Cutting I and (-----) (-----), on 20 April 1662 at Northampton Co, VA.3 John patented land on 9 November 1666 at Somerset Co, MD. It was on this date that he patented 1,500 acres which fell into Somerset (later Worcester) Co, MD, when the state line was settled in 1668..3 He made a will on 6 February 1675 at Somerset Co, MD. His will described him as of "Pocketty Norton," seaman, and named wife Mary, sons Thomas, John, Richard and Argill, and a granddaughter Jane Henson..3 John died before 15 June 1676 at Somerset Co, MD.3
