About John David Patrick (Y700 DNA verified)

In Memory of JOHN DAVID PATRICK Who was born Decr. 21th 1785 And departed this life December 22nd 1857 Aged 72 Years and 1Day He lived an Acceptable Member of the M. E. Church For about 40 years.

Father? Online sources give Richard M. Patrick. No source I have found. 1840 census. Richard M and John D are living near each other and they are the same age. More likely brothers than father and son. But this still leaves room for a separate father named Richard M, with same name as his son, brother of John D.

Brothers likely Daniel, George, Jesse (see 1820 and 1830 censuses). Jesse Patrick was injured by 2 runaway slaves, with court case online at South Carolina archives, 1842-1845. Patricks and Dukes signed the documents. In Orangeburg County in 1834, George L Patrick married Jane M. Dukes. Obviously related to John David Patrick and Elizabeth Dukes but how?

census

  • 1810 census, Orangeburg County. "Jn Patrick" bw 26 and 44 with 4 boys under 10 years old. Maybe not same person? Maybe yes, maybe no. Age should be 25 even.
  • 1820 census, Orangeburg County. no slaves. "David Patrick" bw 25 and 45, wife over 45. Living near George Patrick of similar age bracket at David. (brother?). No slaves to either one. (if father also named John Patrick per 1800 census, maybe his son differentiated himself in census by calling himself middle name David Patrick)
  • 1830 census, Orangeburg County, "David Patric". Listed with others: Jesse, George, Daniel. David, David & Daniel all around same age bw 40 and 50. George & Jesse slightly younger bw 30 and 40. All have wives bw 30 and 40. NONE have slaves.
  • 1840 census, Orangeburg County. no slaves. Living near Richard M. Patrick of same age. brother?
  • 1850 census, Orangeburg County, Branchville, says born in SC, 66 years old (no slaves). Living next door to John P Patrick and Ann Patrick (his son, whose 35 years old?). John P Patrick is probably John Pinckney Patrick based on SC archives 1842 survey of neighbor's land.
