2 JOHN PEET [John ] b 1638 apparently not in Stratford, CT; d January 28, 1677/8, Stratford, CT (BC v LR1, p 75); m by 1662 Sarah Osborn (she b New Haven, CT; d 1 694, Stratford; m second March 25, 1 685 John Brooks - BC v LR2, p 479), dau of Richard Osborn and Mary Townsend. John Peak Jr. appears in "A list of yc Inhabitants of Stratford drawn up by the Townsmen and recorded by Order from ye Governor and Mr. Jones and Mr. Fenn the 27 th March, 1668", while that of his father, still living, does not appear in the same list {Stratford Town Records^ v 1, p 409). John Peat's name appears (as John Peak) in the 1671 tax list of Stratford that was compiled for (he purpose of raising monies to purchase all the claims of the Indians, within the town, excepting certain areas. This was known as the White Hills Purchase. Each proprietor was taxed according to the size of his holdings; John Peet was taxed 8 shillings. His will dated the day before his demise names his widow and children as heirs; inventory was taken February 20, 1677/8.
