By 1807, John PETTUS was in Davidson, Tennessee where he married Alice Taylor WINSTON. His eldest child, Mary Kesiah (Kezia) was born in Wilson, Tennessee.
Wilson County was cut out of Sumner county in 1799. In 1810 and 1812, he has two children who claim their place of birth as Franklin, Tennessee. However, in 1810, John PETTUS received two 160-acre grants in Madison county, Alabama. Other receipts of land to PETTUS men went to Freeman, William, and George.
