About John "Mariner" Pierce

John was a Mariner from Charlestown, Suffolk co., MA[3]. Apparently, at some point, he removed to London, for he is referred to as "J.P. of London, mariner" in Wyman[3]. In 1648, he bought a house & garden from Grace Smith in Charlestown. In 1655, he sold a house, hay-lot and one-quarter of a cow common to R. Mousal in 1655. The one-quarter cow common had been bought from his sister Persis Pierce Bridges, who was referred to as "widow Bridges, my sister" in the deed. By 1669, he was referred to as "J.P. of Wapping"[3]. John was admitted to the Charlestown Church on 22d:6m(August):1652[3].

" The Merchant Adventurers were the group of English investors whose capital funded the Pilgrims voyage on the Mayflower. The joint-stock company they invested in hoped to make a profit from the fur trade, from fishing, and from any other method they could invent. " (continuing) • "Only the names of a few investors prior to 1626 are known, from various letters and court documents: Robert Cushman, Joseph Pocock, William Thomas, Mr. Gibbs, Chistopher Coulson, William Greene, John Pierce , Edward Pickering, and William Pierce.

After much financial problems, the flailing company reorganized in 1628, with James Shirley, Richard Andrews, John Beauchamp, and Timothy Hatherley, and a group of leading Plymouth colonists, buying out the remaining shareholders." ^ from: more work needed to make an absolute confirmation of John Pierce's association with this group of investors.
