John Pierce is believed to have been born 1757 in Swansea, Bristol, Massachusetts Bay but no primary source documentation of his birth has been found.
A John Pierce of Rehoboth is found in Revolutionary War records<ref>Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors, A Compilation from the Archives Prepared by the Secretary of the Commonwealth, Wright & Potter Pub., Boston, 1896, p 374</ref>. Other records support the theory that this relates to this John Pierce and shows he served under various commands fromApril 1778 thru at least July 1780. His age varies in these records but implies a birth later than 1757 and gives a general description of 5 ft 3 in to 5 ft 4 with a complexion listed as "dark" or "ruddy." He married Elizabeth Horton 30 Mar 1775 in Rehoboth with Elder Nathan Pearse presiding.<ref>Dodd, Jordan, Liahona Research, comp. Massachusetts, Marriages, 1633-1850.</ref><ref>Arnold, James N. Vital Record of Rehoboth, 1642-1896. Providence, RI, USA: Narragansett Historical Publishing, 1897.</ref> He appears in the US Census of 1830 residing in Swansea<ref>US Census 1830; Census Place: Swansea, Bristol, Massachusetts; Series: M19; Roll: 59; Page: 242; Family History Library Film: 0337917</ref>. Other Census records which may be this John Pierce exist but this was a common name and there is no current way to differentiate between the census records without additional sources. No record of his death has been located however a Will for a John Pierce appears in an NEHGS Massachusetts records index with a death date of 4 Dec 1832<ref>New England Historic Genealogical Society. Massachusetts, Town Death Records, 1620-1850 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA:Ancestry.com Operations Inc, 1999. </ref> and while it is not definitively proven that this document relates to this John Pierce, Revolutionary War pension records show a John Pierce with wife Elizabeth and a death date of 4 December 183__ with the last digit illegible due to a smudge.<ref>The National Archives; Washington, D.C.; Ledgers of Payments, 1818-1872, to U.S. Pensioners Under Acts of 1818 Through 1858 FromRecords of the Office of the Third Auditor of the Treasury; Record Group Title: Records of the Accounting Officers of the Department of theTreasury; Record Group Number: 217; Series Number: T718; Roll Number:16</ref> His death is frequently seen as 1839 but there appears to beno documentation or evidence for that date. A John Pierce Jr appears in immediate area records but it is not knownif he is the son of this John Pierce.
