About John Reginald Pole-Crew
Inscription: Sacred to the memory of Jemima, the wife of Reginald Pole Carew, Esq., daughter and sole heir of the Hon. John Yorke, fourth son of Philip, first Earl of Hardwick, sometime Lord High Chancellor of Great Britain. She was born on the 5 of June, 1763, and died on the 16 of July, 1804. Of elegant and unaffected manners --- of a lively and interesting sensibility --- with a tender and most affectionate heart --- a sound judgment --- a well cultivated and pious mind --- innocent in thought --- correct in conduct --- she fulfilled all the duties of her station with distinguished propriety, and with a zeal surpassing the powers of her delicate frame. She was torn from her afflicted husband and seven surviving children, in the midst of her parental exertions, at a moment when the solace of her society --- her counsel --- her protection --- and her example, were to her family of inestimable value and importance.
In the same vault and at the same time were deposited the remains of her youngest son John Reginald Pole Carew, who was born on the 23 of September, 1800; and died on the 8 of July, 1804. A child of the fairest promise, whose sprightly intelligence and engaging sweetness had excited the fondest hopes of his future destinies. Thy will, O Lord, be done!
