28 AUG 1673 Rappahanock County, Virginia, USA

In the name of God Amen, I John Prosser of the Golden valle in the Parish of Sittingbourne in the Freshes of Rappae. County being very sick and weak but yet in perfect strength of memory blessed be God doe make this my last Will & Testament in manner and form following. Imprs. I give my soule to God that gave it who is my creator hoping to be saved by his mercy in Jesus Christ my Savior & Redeemer and not by any merrits of my own for I am less than the lest of all his mercies & my body to the earth with decent & Christian buriall by my first wife, Martha.

Item I give unto my wife that now is, I meane my loving wife, Margarett, 500 acres of land on the N. side of the River joyning to 500 acres sold to Thomas Pannell to her and her heirs & assigns for ever, &1/2 of my moovable estate my debts and funerall charge being paid; & if my moovable estate will not pay my debts, then so much of my land back upon Pewmansin to be sold by her as will fully satisfie all, she I do ehereby make my full and whole executrix to execute my whole will.

Item I give to my eldest sonne, John Prosser, my plantation called the Nutgrove, & the land thereto belonging both to his & his heires for ever& in case he die without issue, the surviving brethren to have it divided amongst equally.

Item I give unto my second sonne, Samuell Prosser, 400 acres of land joyning up on his brother, John to him & his heires for ever he dying without issue the land to be divided among the surviving brethren. Item my plantation of the Golden Valle & the land in that neck I give to my loveing wife, Margaret, during her naturall life & then to fall to my eldest sonne, John Prosser & his heires for ever.

Item I give to my 2 sonns joyntly by name Roger Prosser & Anthony Prosser a devident of land containing 1,100 acres lying upon Mattepony Swamp to them & their heires for ever to be divied by lott, when the eldest of them come of age & they dying without issue to be equally divided betweene the surviving brethren; yet this shall be no barr to any of them or to hinder any one of them from selling his own proper inheritance if occassion require.

Item I give unto my sonne in law, Robert Goffe & Thomas Goffe, 200 acres of land joyntly, joyning upon my back line of my divident of the Golden Valle for them & their heires for ever. Item what land I have over & aboave what I have disposed of as aforesd to be equally divided among my 4 sonnes by name John Prosser, Samuell Prosser, Roger Prosser & Anthony Prosser & I leave undr. God all my sdsonnes undr. the protection of my loveing wife, Margarett, untill they come one after another to the age of 18 & to whom she shall think fitt to putt them too & do hereby desire Mr. James Kay to assist my sd executrixin performing all my will & testamt. & whereas I have sold some land that as yet hath no conveyance doe hereby impower my sd executris or Mr. James Kay or his or her certaine attorney to give conveyance for the same & to acknowledge it to be recorded & in confirmation of the same revoaking allother wills & testamts. to this my last will & testamt. Simon Miller wrote his will 16 February 1679. He was seven and thirty years old then. In it he lists the following children; Simon, William, John, Susanna, Isabella, and Margaret. He mentioned Anthony Prosser and called him his wife's son. Later on in his will he included provisions for the sons of Mr. Prosser
