About Col. John Quattlebaum
He was assumed to be a Colonel in the state militia. Since most records for him bear the title of Colonel.He remained in SC after the rest of his family left, aquiring large land holdings in Sleepy Creek & Little Stephens Creek area in Edgefield County, including a gold mine which he operated successfully for some years. He was a tax collector for Edgefield 1845-48 & 1853-56 and afterwards from 1860-1862 He was also a representative for Dist in the General Assembly of SC This was cut short by the succession of SC. 1/28/1861 He was also mustered as a Capt in Co C19th Reg SC known as Palmetto Sharp Shooters.He married Elizabeth Youngblood daughter of JacobYoungblood and Sarah Still (Youngblood) He died 12/13/1865 & is buried in the family cemetery near his home in Edgefield District Birth: Aug. 27, 1807 Death: Dec. 13, 1865
