LTC John Taylor Radford, CSA was born on June 4, 1838. His parents were Dr. John Blair Radford and Elizabeth Campbell Radford.
He died on November 12, 1864 in Battle of Cedar Creek, Virginia, US and was buried in Radford Family Cemetery, Radford, Radford City, Virginia, USA.
Col. John Taylor Radford, killed at Cedarville, Virginia.∼Civil War Confederate Officer. When war was declared in 1861 an untold number of patriotic men answered their respective county's call-to-arms. The subject of this memorial was one of them. John Taylor Radford was a native of Montgomery County, Virginia who received a higher education in Moral Philosophy and Political Economy at the University of Virginia. In 1861, he volunteered and entered Confederate service with a captain's commission with an assignment to Company K, 24th Virginia Infantry. He further served as a field officer in the 4th Virginia State Line. Radford subsequently became a Aide-de-Camp to Brigadier General Gabriel C. Wharton. By November 9, 1863 he was a lieutenant colonel who was sharing the fortunes of the 22nd Virginia Cavalry. A year later on November 12, 1864, Radford was killed in the service of his country at Cedarville, Virginia.
