John Reed was the son of John Reed and his 1st wife Ann (perhaps Samson). He was born 13 May 1667 in Warwick, Kent, Rhode Island and died before 6 Oct 1724 before age 57 in Norwalk, Fairfield, Connecticut.

He married Elizabeth Tuttle and they had the following children: [1] [2]: (Of the following 10 children only 8 are named in the 1824 dispersement of his Estate)

John passed away in 1724. His inventory was taken on 6 October 1724 and recorded at Fairfield on 12 November 1724 at Fairfield. (Probate Records, v. 6-8, 1717-1750, FHL microfilm 007627301, image 494-495, Fairfield, Fairfield, Connecticut, Vol 8, 1725-1740, Page 32-34.) The Disbursement of his Estate reads as follows:

  • A Court of Probates held in Fairfield November 12, 1724, Administration granted by said court to John Read and Daniel Read sons of John Read late of Norwalk deceased …. on the right of their father in form of law at the same time the said administrators exhibited the inventory of the estate of their said father and made a solemn oath that the same is a true and perfect inventory of the said John Read to the best of their knowledge…
  • Disbursements to the widow and children of the deceased the said widow shall have her dowry… According to law during her natural life and 1/3 of the movable Estate as her own forever… The said children there being four sons living namely John Read, Daniel, Samuel and William Read and there is the legal representation of Eleazer Reed deceased who shall be considered as one child in the distribution of said estate there being also daughters namely Elizabeth Green, Experience Sention and Mehitable Read. The eldest son shall have a double portion and rest of the children shall have equal and single portions of the estate and the court orders that the daughters shall have their portions in the movable wealth…

  • I. John Tuttle, b. 1631; m. Nov. 8, 1653, Kattareen Lane (per. dau. of John, who was of Milford, 1640, and d. 1689, leaving good est.) He received house and lot in East Haven from his f. by deed 1661. He sold it next year to John Potter, blacksmith, and about same time sold, according to Dodd, to wid. of Wm. Ludington, land at Stony River, which was a part of his patrimony. In these conv. he is called jun. At court in N. H., Nov. 23, 1662, John Tuttle requested that he might have liberty to purchase some land of the Indians beyond Chestnut Hill. He d. Nov. 12, 1683. Inv. (english pound)79 adm. given to sons John and Samuel, the other chil. to have their parts as they came of age.

  • After checking out the citations that people sent me, as much as I could get ahold of them, mostly TAG, and a couple of citations, I never did get ahold of the Prindle book, I found that documents such as wills establish that the Tuttles were of Northampton. My sources, as well as a summary of the disproven roots cited in older Tuttle genealogies in the United States, are below.
