John M. Roark

John is the oldest known Roark, ca 1816, born in Tennessee, family migrated to Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma.

At least 2 John Roarks in the Civil War: 1) Union, 3rd Tennessee Infantry, PVT. 2) Confederate, 1st Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry (Carter's), PVT. 3) John M. Roark, Pension Applicant. There is no record of a John Roark serving in any Arkansas regiment. If he was born in 1816, he would have been exempt from service. The "J. P." Roark listed in the CWSS System is actually Isaac P. Roark, a Washington County man who served in the 1st Battalion Arkansas Cavalry, and later in the 34th Arkansas Infantry. This man was born c1838 in Tennessee.

This compiler was told by, Rena Ellen "Ella" (Mumaw) Roark, that John and his son Christopher Columbus Roork both served in the Civil War and both were killed towards the end of that war.

A military record has been located that proves Christopher served in this war, however, no record has been found to verify that John also served. No record that either died in this war. However, the fact that John's wife, Phebe, is h.o.h. on the 1870 census would perhaps be an indication that the source is correct.
Also, if C.C. Roark 28 year old female, on the 1870 census , Jackson TWP, Boone Co., AR is the widow of Christopher then perhaps this too would be an indication the source was correct.[Br%C3%B8derbund WFT Vol. 5, Ed. 1, Tree #2530, Date of Import: Jan 26, 2005]
