John Russell II, like his father, managed the family business and was also Mayor of Guildford in 1779, 1789, 1791 and finally in 1797 when he was 86 years old.

John Russell II was born in Guildford on January 21, 1711 and died on June 1, 1804 in Guildford. He married Ann Parvish in 1741 in St Mary’s Church in Guildford. Ann Parvish, also from Guildford, was born in 1719 and died in 1775. They lived at 32 High Street, the same location where the business operated. Today, the building is used by a store called Hobb’s. On the second floor outside walls there are two plaques which read “Russell House” and “Birthplace of John Russell, RA 1745-1806 artist”.

John Russell II and Ann Parvish had 7 children:

John, born in Guildford on March 29, 1745 and died April 20, 1806 in Hull, Yorkshire, England. He is buried Under The Choir Of Holy Trinity Church in Yorkshire. He married Hannah Faden on February 5, 1770 in St Marylebone, London, England.

Samuel, born in Guildford in 1746 and died in 1844. He managed the family business after the death of his father. He was also Mayor of Guildford.

Thomas, born in 1748 in Guildford and died in 1822 in West Clandon, Surrey, England. Was Rector of West Clandon.

Elizabeth. Born approximately in 1750 in Guildford.

Katherine. Born approximately in 1753 in Guildford. She died in 1803.

William, born in 1755 and died in 1839 in Guildford. He married Ann Baker, born in Guilford in about 1759 and died in 1818. He was a musician and organist of Holy Trinity and Store churches.

John Russell II is buried in Guildford in the Holy Trinity churchyard with his wife Ann Parvish. His headstone reads “Father of the Corporation” in honor of the service he provided for the community.
