The funeral of Captain John Schipke, a former local resident, took place from the Thomas E. Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Church Street followed by a solemn high requiem mass in Holy Trinity Church officiated by the Rev. John J. Delaney, the Rev. Richard P. Morrissey and the Rev. J. L. Sullivan of North Haven. Miss Gertrude Kane presided at the organ and was soloist.
Members of Shaw-Sinon post, No. 73, American Legion, in attendance were Commander Charles Fields, John W. Kane, Stephen Gargaly, William Fitzgerald and John W. Bailey. Presenting the American Flag to the family were Commander Charles Fields and Stephen Gargaly, the bugler being Albert Killen, who sounded taps.
Members of the firing squad were Sergeants Ganner and Rogovin, also Privates Zolkiswicz, Pelloni, Gingrass, Burns and Flynn.
The bearers were Fire Chief John Czine, Henry Bronsord, Edwin Kowalski, Edward Gallagher, George Lacoske and Patrolman James Patterson.
