My great-grandfather was contracted when he arrived at Valparaiso in 1820 at the Waddington & Templeman house, but another source claimed that "the young adventurer (David Ross) arrived in Valparaiso and soon it was possible to hire the English firm Sewell & Patrickson that operated in mining operations His performance was acknowledged by his bosses, which soon led him to be named agent of the company. "The Londoner, John Sewelll born in London" arrived in Chile in 1818 as steward of a ship from Calcutta. he settled in Valparaiso as an agent of Fletcher Alexander's house, who exchanged oriental luxury products for copper. " Professor John Mayo (USA) also asserted that John Patrickson, principal partner of Sewell & Patrickson, had begun his activities in 1822. Therefore it is more likely that David Ross was actually employed by Waddington & Templeman, because he had arrived at Valparaiso in March 1822, two years before the official signing of Sewell & Patrickson in that port. Sewell married Juana Blest y López, being a politician of the writer Alberto Blest Gana and his sister-in-law Juana Gana Lopez was married to Manuel Blanco Encalada (in the attached picture of the Carmen Museum). He was an Anglican and had a chapel on his property. I export silver ore in Coquimbo and copper by Chañaral. It does not name Vallenar.
