About John Bernard Sibert
Source: 'Moses Sibert Family by Mrs. Rebecca H. Good
Immigration records show that Johann Bernard Seibert arrived with his cousins Johann Jacob Seubert and Johann Wendel Seibert on the ship Davey at the port of Philadelphia on October 25, 1738. Wendell eventually settled in Berkeley County, Virginia (now West Virginia) where he left a will naming twelve children.
Jacob Seubert is the man for whom Fort Seybert was named. His family settled in Augusta County, Virginia, now Pendleton County, West Virginia around 1748 and he built the fort that was named for him. In the spring of 1758, indians attacked the fort, killing Jacob and his wife and carrying off their six children.
The whereabouts of John Bernard Sibert cannot be satisfactorily accounted for from his arrival in Philadelphia in 1738 until he established his residence in Virginia in April of 1750. The first notice in Virginia documents is a record of the survey of a tract of land in what is now Shenandoah County. On the 26th day of April, 1750, by the authority of Lord Fairfax, the Proprietor of the Northern Neck, John Baylis surveyed for John Funkhouser 400 acres of land in that part of Frederick County which later became Shenandoah. On April 27, Mr. Baylis surveyed two more Northern Neck tracts, one for George Huddle containing 341 acres and one for "Barnet Siver" containing 400 acres. These tracts were in the vicinity of Toms Brook and Siver's tract joined both of the others. Bernard Sibert's deed was issued by the Proprietor's Office on January 7, 1752 in the name of "Barnet Seever" for 400 acres.
We do not know the name of John Bernard Sibert's wife. She evidently died before he did because she is not named in his will. His will names 8 children. (will book E p 447, Shen Co, VA)
