John Stalker, a Scottish teacher came to Natal in ca 1874 to teach at the "Scottish Mission Training School" in Pietermaritzburg. He was paid by "Free Church of Scotland" and was olso known as a "Reverend". Stalker was a highly intelligent person with a masters dereee obtained from the University of Edenburg. In 1880 was followed up by RD Clark, the head master of the "Old High School", know known as Maritzburg College and John was SeniorAssistent - deputy headmaster. He has written academic articles under the name of Edenensis for the school publication. He published the book Natal Carbineers shortly before his death in 1912. He is buried in the Voortrekker Cemetry, Kerkstraat, Pietermaritzburg with his wife Christina Reykie Ferreira in Grqaveno, 1273 stand no 3E. They had a son John Dryden Stalker 16/8/1880 - 2/7/1951 that becanmme a rich attorney and advocate who in 1906 was appointed by die Government to appear in court for the Zoeloe heads, Nklandlhla during the Bambatha Rebellion. He only had one son Alexander Gibson Dryden Stalker.
