John Staple, son of Jeffery Staple and Margery Christmas, was baptized at Wendover, Buckinghamshire, England, in August 1608. He married an unnamed wife. He was in Dorchester by November 27, 1639 when his daughter, Rebecca, was born there. John died at Dorchester, Massachusetts, July 4, 1683.[1]
He married and had at least 5 children:
He wrote his will 18 March 1681/2, the inventory was taken 13 July 1683, proved on 2 August 1683. [3]
John Staple, Senior, of Weymouth, Massachusetts, wrote his will March 18, 1681. In it he named, in order of their appearance, sons John, Abraham and Joseph; son-in-law Samuel Sumner and "my daughter, Rebecca, his wife"; son-in-law Increase Sumner and "my daughter, Sarah, his wife". He names his son, John Staple and son-in-law Increase Sumner to be joint executors of his estate. There was no mention of a wife in his will. Son, Abraham, was treated differently than his siblings in the will: to be given 20 shillings within three months of John's death. The reason for this is written, "For as much as I was at charge to procure him a trade and have given him already other estate".
