Two letters written from London by Edward Holyoke to his future wife, reach across the years to cast a bit of light on life in Rev. John Stockton's family. In 1607 Edward sends his regards to prudence's brother Gilbert, hoping that he "is well recovered: he was not very well when he and I dranke a pinte of burned sacke behing Paules Church." In 1612 Edward notes that he is sending Prudence "a silke girdle, and a paire of gloves and this my letter to your for a New Years gift, I hope it wilbe accepted of your heart," and then explains how to wash the gloves. He mentions visits from Cousin Roger Hawthorne "att his return homewards," and with her uncle and aunt Whittingam at their house, and states that he is sending John "a dozen of threed pointes, and to Sarai, Rebecca, Hester, Margaret 4 laces and commend me to them all..."
