RONAN - John Henry Stokes, 78, a former Ronan resident, died Sunday in his Valier home. He was born Feb. 3, 1896, in Weber County, Utah. He moved to Ronan in 1953. He was married to Luella Christine Armstron Oct. 31, 1914, in Shelby. She died March 12, 1972. He was married to Goldie Hanford in November 1972 in Polson. Survivors include his wife, Goldie, Valier; two daughters, Mrs. Ray (Bernice) Scott, Valier, and Mrs. Birgie Williamson, Butte; one son, John Stokes, Pablo, three stepsons, Wayne Hanford, Valier; Lawrence Hanford, Bruneau, Idaho, and Dan Hanford, Kalispell; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. There will be a funeral service in Valier in the Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Thursday with Rev. L. Elmer Robinson officiating, and there will be a service Friday at 2 p.m. in Shrider's Mortuary Chapel in Ronan with Rev. Warren Smith officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Ronan. The Wyse Funeral Home of Conrad is in charge of arrangements at Valier.
