About John Stryker

John was a Captain of the Lighthorse Cavalry in the Revolution. He was also a prosperous farmer and his father willed him the family's silver hilted sword.

The 1887 Stryker genealogy calls him a zealous patriot who performed conspicuous service during the war whenever British foraging parties attempted to raid into New Jersey. He is found as an executor and trustee of several estates and lived in a fine large farmhouse west of the Millstone River in Weston. ('The Stryker Family in America')
