John Christopher Swiger was born on Talkington Fork in Harrison Co. (now Doddridge Co.), (W.) Va., on October 31, 1837, the son of Daniel Leonard Swiger & Mary (Bates) Swiger.

He spent his early years in Harrison Co., (W.) Va., and was at home when his father was listed on the 1840 Harrison Co., (W.) Va., census and in Doddridge Co., (W.) Va., during his teenage years.

John C. Sweiger (age 12, B-VA) is listed on the 1850 Doddridge County (District 13), (W.) Va., census in household with his parents and siblings: Ann, Nancy, Andrew, Tabitha and William. He was listed as a student. #500-441

At the age of 18, John C. Swiger married for his 1st wife, Sarah Ann (Laughery), in Harrison Co., (W.) Va., on January 03, 1856 [marriage bond dated December 31, 1855]

John C. Swiger & 1st wife Sarah Ann (Laughery) Swiger lived in Harrison Co., (W.) Va., and had 5 children born to their union before she died in Harrison Co., (W.) Va., in 1865.

John Christopher Swiger died on Broad Run near Ashley, Doddridge Co., W. Va., on September 01, 1887, at the age of 49, and he is buried in the Swiger Cemetery on Broad Run near Ashley, Doddridge Co., W. Va., and his second wife was later buried beside him.
