John Taylor, father of Avarilla Day , was a man of some distinction. lie was Deputy Surveyor of his County under Col. Tbcinas Richardson, and later under Col. John Dorsey II. He was elected a delegate to the assembly at Annapolis. He is styled "Gentleman" and Mr. John Taylor. Who was the mother of his two children I am unable to say at present. His second wife was Elizabeth Heathcote, widow of William Pickett and mother of Heathcote Pickett, fa- mous as a Tory Spy. Besides numerous other tracts ho owned and lived on "Taylor’s Mount" which was survey ed for his grandfather, John Taylor, though he did not in hcrit it from him. In the year 1726 lie conveyed "Taylor’s Mount" to his son-in-law Edward Day; but probably continued to live there. "Taylor’s Mount" is still in possession of the Day Family (1913). The date of John Taylor’s death is not know. A deposition says that he went to North Carolina to live, when middle aged, and that it was not then known whether he was living cr dead. John Taylor had two children, only one of them survived him, his daughter Avarilla Day. A son Arthur Taylor died at his brother- in law's, Mr. Edward Day’s in 1728
