Birth: 1626 Death: 1692
~MY ANCESTOR~ The son of THOMAS & ISABEL (BRYAN) UFFORD, he was baptized on June 11, 1626 in Nazing, county Essex, England. He was brought to New England in 1632 on the "LION" by his parents and settled with them in Milford, New Haven Colony.
He married first, Hannah Hawley, in 1656, daughter of my ancestors, JOSEPH & KATHERINE (BOOTH) HAWLEY. Hannah divorced him shortly after their marriage on the grounds that he was "unqualified for the marital relation". She then married Capt. John Beard, son of my ancestors, JAMES & MARTHA BEARD.
In 1656/7 the court granted John permission to marry MARTHA NETTLETON who was an apprentice in the house of THOMAS UFFORD, SR. They were the parents of at least eight children, one of which, Lieut. SAMUEL UFFORD, was my ancestor.
