About John Washbourne

From Re: Wichenford Bengeworth Connection Proved posted by John Maltby 2005

"Phillimore's Visitation of Worcestershire indicated that John Washbourne of Wichenford had a son named John, but the will of John Washbourne of Wichenford did not name a son John, nor did the Inquisition Post Mortem. So this is a classic case of conflicting evidence. If the son John listed in the Visitation of Worcestershire was indeed the John Washbourne of Bengeworth, Phillimore did not indicate so.
"Recent DNA studies, from what I understand, prove there was some close relation between the two branches, but that split in the branches could have occurred in a generation or two before the Wichenford Estate was inherited by Norman Washbourne. While there remains at least one other possible answer for the close DNA match, the link between John Washbourne of Bengeworth and John Washbourne of Wichenford remains genealogically unproven.
"Unfortunately we don't know how the Bengeworth property came into the hands of John Washbourne who died there in 1546/7, and therein probably lies the key to answering the question of whether or not one was the son of the other.
"See Elizabeth Shown Mills' "Evidence" for the standards of genealogical proof when direct evidence is lacking or when conflicting evidence is found."
