John Weldy, son of Abraham and Nancy (Yoder) Weldy, was born near Wakarusa, Indiana on November 24, 1858; died very suddenly of heart failure at the home of his daughter Della (Mrs. Martin Ferguson); aged 81 y. 11 m. 26 d.

On Aug. 2, 1881, he was united in marriage to Rhoda Salsbury, who preceded him in death Aug. 24, 1928. They moved on a farm west of Wakarusa where they lived until 1920, when they moved to Wakarusa. After the death of his companion he has been making his home with his children. To this union were born 6 children: Della (Mrs. Martin Ferguson); Alma (Mrs. Harley Hunsberger), Ernest, Lloyd, Buell, and Ruth (Mrs. Russell Wenger of Novelty, Ohio).

He was converted in the year of 1913 and united with the Christian Church at Wakarusa, Ind. He was a teacher of the older ladies' class and served as deacon until blindness overtook him. He was one who loved his Lord and was always ready to give a testimony for Him and loved to speak of the goodness of God. On the last Sunday of his life he worshiped with the brethren of the Olive congregation and expressed his joy in the fact of the home-going for the child of God.

He is survived by his 2 sons and 3 daughters, 24 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 sister (Mrs. Sam Madlem of Elkhart), 3 brothers (Joseph and Levi of Wakarusa and Amos of Montgomery, Ind.), and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted by Gordon Kemble and D. A. Yoder. Burial in the Olive Cemetery.

The sudden passing of John Weldy, 82, occurred Wednesday evening, November 20, at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Martin Ferguson, 4 1/2 miles northeast of town. Mr Weldy, who had gone to the Ferguson home the week before, had suffered a heart attack on Wednesday morning, but later in the day he had recovered sufficiently to sit in a char when he again became ill and passed away.

The son of Abraham and Nancy Yoder Weldy, he was born November 24, 1858, two miles southwest of own on the Weldy homestead. His marriage to Rhoda Salsbury took place on August 2, 1881. She died August 24, 1938. During most of their married life they moved in Madison township and in 1920 they moved to town. After Mrs Weldy's death, Mr Weldy lived with his children.

He was a member of the First Christian church here since 1913, and had served as teacher of the men's class and deacon.

He leaves five children: Mrs Della Ferguson, Mrs Harley (Alma) Hunsberger, Ernest and Buel Weldy of this vicinity, and Mrs Russell (Ruth) Wenger of Novelty, O; 24 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs Samuel Madlem of Elkhart, and three brothers, Joseph and Levi of this vicinity and Amos of Montgomery. A son, Lloyd, died in 1933.

The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon with friends meeting at the Ferguson home at 1:30 and a further service at the First Christian church at 2. The Rev Gordon Kemble, pastor of the church, officiated, assisted by the Rev D A Yoder. Burial in the Olive cemetery.
