About John Stewart Wellman
Aged 31y 10m 5d Pg. 541 History of Wapello County Iowa 1900.
Enlisted CO D 7th REG IA in March of 1862. He contacted typhoid fever at Topeka, Kansas and was discharged Feb 1, 1863. He returned home and when his health returned he re enlisted in CO B 3th IA VOL INF and got South as far as Helena Arkansas where he was stricken with epilespy and again discharged from the service. Coming home he helped recruit a Company and joined a 100 day regiment. He went South to Nashville, TENN., to work for the government in the wagons and blacksmith trade. Just before the Battle at Atlanta, Georgia in which he was wounded. He was again discharged and sent back home where he took up his trade as a blacksmith and wagon maker.
