Revolutionary War soldier of Pitt County, N.C. Revolutionary War Pay Vouchers, page 816, lists two John Whitakers from Pitt Co., N.C., said to be father and son.

One reference says John Whitaker Sr. was Christened 1734 in Beaufort Co. NC, which indicates he was born 1734 in Beaufort Co., N.C., rather than in Pennsylvania.

John/Jonathan Whitaker was from Surry County and Rowan County, N.C. Said to have married Mary Williams (b.c1738 N.C.), daughter of Thomas Williams of Pitt Co. and Sarah (Harrell). Keel-Whitaker Family by P.B. Keel, et al. says Sarah Howell, but other genealogies show she was Sarah Harrell, daughter of John Harrell II who married his first cousin Mary Williams. Sarah's grandparents were John Harrell and Grace Boswell/ Hardy Harrell, George Williams and Joanna Mills (or Anderson) Williams.

The children of John Whitaker and Mary Williams: 1. John Whitaker 1755 (some say 1760) 2. Daniel Whitacre 1760-62 3. Isaac Whitaker c1762-64 (m. Catherine Horn 1785) 4. Wm Whitaker c1764-70 6. Abraham Whitaker c1764-70 Exact birth dates are unknown, estimates only. Some family trees omit Isaac and some omit William. No doubt there were daughters also.

John Whitaker's death date unknown; some descendants give the year of death as 1785, source not stated.

Son of William Whitaker and Elizabeth Carleton Whitaker. Grandson of Joshua Whitaker and Jane Bannister Parker Whitaker, Mark Carlton and Susannah Watson Carlton; great-grandson of Rev. Robert Whitaker and Margaret Lisle Whitaker, John Parker and Elizabeth Banaster Parker, Thomas Carlton and Isabell Mark Carlton, Samuel Watson and Elizabeth Thompson Watson; great-great-grandson of Robert Whitaker, Lord John Lisle and Lady Alice Lisle or Dame Alicia Lisle (nee Beconsawe).
