John Henry Owen Wilcox

John Henry was a farmer born in Arkansas Feb 14, 1824. The family removed to Marion County Missouri where his father died. His mother joined the Mormon church in Marion County, then moved to Jackson county, then to Clay Co, then to Caldwell, and Lee County Missouri. Then to Iowa from which they departed for Salt Lake City in ox team with John Taylor, arriving September 30, 1847. In 1850 John moved to Manti, then to Pleasant Grove and then North Ogden, and in 1860 came to Mt. Pleasant. He took up 20 acres of land which he still owns, with his residence in the city, when the Walker war broke out. He worked in Pleasant Creek Canyon and lost his wagon and lumber and two yoke of oxen. He took a active part in the Indian war. His wife was Mary, daughter of James and Elizabeth Seeley Young born in upper Canada on June 6 1831. She drove three yoke of oxen across the plains assisted in hauling logs to build her parent's house and molded the adobes for the chimney. They were married in SLC on March 14, 1848. Their 11 children are: Hassard, Elizabeth, sarah, James H., John C., Mary, Clarissa, Ella, Hannah, Martha, and Justus
