• *********************** Ohio was the first state created from the Northwest Territory on February 19, 1803. Warren County was established by an act of the first Gen eral Assembly of the State of Ohio, passed March 24, 1803. It was one of the first twelve counties formed in the new State of Ohio from a po rtion of what had been Hamilton County. It was named for General Joseph Warren who was a physician and Major General during the American Rev olution. He lost his life at the Battle of Bunker Hill.

          • *************** A good portion of Washington Township, Warren County, consisted of swamp lands which long delayed its settlement. Squire Samuel Harris, in h is history of the township, says that the highest lands of the townshi p lie not far from its center, and on this high land was a swamp called Sweet Gum Swamp. The waters from this swamp moved slowly northward by a sluggish stream into Flat Fork which empties into Caesar's Creek. The Flat Fork swamps remained a wilderness until 1840 when the Harrises, John Hadley and John Wilkerson opened up farms upon it, and soon the land was found to compare favorably with any other in the township.
            • **************** James Wilkerson, who was a Revolutionary soldier and born in Virginia , came to Ohio in 1805. He built a distillery at the foot of a hill called "The Knobs," which is located at the brow of the hill on the Lebanon & Wilmington Road. The product produced by this distillery was mostly peach and apple brandy. His son John, and grandson, James H. Wilkerson, built a steam saw-mill on the same location in 1860 From the History of Warren County
              • ********** This Bible is very old and falling apart. The first pages telling wh en this bible was printed has been long gone. The first page of what i s left intact is Genesis and written across the top of the page is th e following: "My Grandmother's Bible, she was Elisabeth Farris Wilkerson". Written by Horace B. Wilkerson on Sunday evening Feb 15, 1911 Snowing and windy. This by myself - my uncles and Aunt are all dead. The four relatives I have left hardly eve come to see me. My grandmother was an (sic) offal good woman and loved to read her bib le. On the 2nd page "My grandfather was John Wilkerson, a man always good to the poor and clever to every body." On the 3rd page "My father was James H. Wilkerson My mother was Sarah A. Wilkerson Two good people."
