Cuurently research is being undertaken about John William BROOKS, * 1848, s.o. Edward Charles TOWNSEND and Mary Anne BROOKS, and John William TOWNSEND, * 1851, s.o. Malcolm LITTLEJOHN and Georgina Mary Anne TOWNSEND. The question being whether they are the same person.

Daar is geen rekord van John William se geboortedatum of doop nie. Slegs oorvertelling dat Mary Anne sy moeder is en Edward Charles Townsend sy vader.

Note

John William BROOKS is the grandson of the Progenitor and therefor should be in the generation notated by a "c".

Furthermore, based on his birthdate, of AUG 1850, he was one of the last children born to William BROOKS and Eva Johanna LUCK. Just over 20 years after the first born. Including John William, there are accounts of 11 children. Per records currently available, the first born was Nelis Hendrik William BROOKS (various spellings of his names) who was born on 7 SEP 1830.

The notation 'b1' is therefore incorrect. A more correct notation would be c9, c10 or c11, because the exact birthdate of two other children are not known either.

John William BROOKS is the son of Edward Charles TOWNSEND and Mary Ann BROOKS. He was however adopted by his grandparents William BROOKS and Eva Johanna LUCK and remained on the farm Solderskraal after his parents moved to Springbok.

VAN HEMERT, Museumbestuurder, 8 SEP 1999, Verwysing EIB.1: Geslagsregister vir William BROOKS, 1820 Britse Setlaar: Hy is die seun van Edward Charles TOWNSEND en Marian Elizabeth BROOKS maar is gebore voordat hulle getroud is. Daarom het hy sy 17-jarige moeder se van behou. Edward en Marian is toe later 19.11.1849 getroud. (Mev. Miemie DELPORT, nee BROOKS)
