About John Williams
John Williams VanMeter married Catherine Keller, about 1818, and died about 1825. Catherine, as a widow with 2-3 children, moved to Coles County Illinois, probably with her parents George and Sarah Keller, and a sister. Catherine remarried William Ligon Williams (marriage license being sent to me) and was again widowed and again married, a third time, a neighbor William D. Clark (I have that marriage license). She had 3 daughters by Williams and he raised her children by John Vanmeter. Family enters describe her as extremely busy and involved in church, community carding of wool, and she served as a volunteer midwife in Illinois. William's will describes her a 'loving'.
I wonder if the name Williams in Gens's John Vanmeter is a confusion about Catherine's name becoming Williams. I'd never seen Williams added to John Jr. Vanmeter before.
