About Nancy Sibley
- Reference: Ancestry Genealogy - SmartCopy: Oct 9 2021, 7:00:03 UTC
VanMeters can be found in Virginia and in Kentucky around this time. It is therefore more likely that Isaac Sibley's first wife married him in Kentucky, and we do not have the marriage record, than it is that they married in Virginia.
Having said that, I can find no VanMeters who died in Union County, Kentucky, which means I have no good source family candidate for Isaac Sibley's first wife. We'll have to presume that Isaac and his family wound up there after stopping somewhere else first. The next step is to look at Isaac's father, to see where in Kentucky he died, for a clue as to the VanMeters, but that is little help, since there were no VanMeter marriages in Henderson County either, and since they were close by to Union County.
Recorded VanMeter marriages come from:
- Botetourt County, VA
- Ross County, OH
- Hardin County, KY
There are wills also from Warren County, and lots of headstones from Hardin. The pedigree of the Hardin VanMeters is well established and comes from a New Jersey VanMeter family, but a large number of those marriages were recorded, so I don't think as good a case can be made for a missed marriage from there.
