John Williams

1744, December 23: John, son of William and Martha (Wheeler) Williams, was born at Stonington Village (New London) Connecticut Colony.

• John Williams assisted in establishing American Independence and while acting in the capacity of Lieutenant he was wounded at the battle of White Plains and was brought home strapped to his house by a body servant. He served all through the war, rendering service as follows:

1776, August 27: In the Lexington alarm for the relief of Boston; in the battle of Long Island. He was in Washington's Life Guard; transferring at Valley Forge; corporal in Captain Stanton's Company, Colonel North's Battalion;

1776, June: Ensign in the 4th Battalion under Colonel Seldon.

1776, September 8: He was a Lieutenant in Captain Stanton's Company, 8th Regiment.

1778, January1: He was a Captain in Colonel Johnson's Regiment and a privateer on the brigantine, "Marquis de Lafayette".

• John Williams turned out for the relief of Boston; was at Long Island and was wounded at White Plains. He served in Washington's Life Guard; was at Valley Forge and rose to the rank of Lieutenant.
