John Woodland was in Dorchester by 1646 and then settled in Braintree about 1650.[1]

He remained in Braintree unitil about 1663, when John was one of the first seven settlers at Mendon, MA.[2]According to Alice Palladini, a member of the Descendants of David Thomson group that maintains the Thompson Web Site, John WOODLAND's home was on a road in Mendon called Birch Alley, just eight rods wide. The road led from Medfield north to Marlborough, a distance of 2 1/2 miles. the houses were widely separated.

John returned to Braintree during the Indian war and took the oath of allegiance there about 1678.[1]

He died sometime between November 28, 1687, when he and his wife deed land to Caleb Hobart, and March 28, 1696, when his wife acknowledged the deed as "widow Martha Woodland."[3]

By Mar. 28, 1696, Martha may have remarried to a Barrett, as a "Mrs. Barrett formerly Woodand" was dismissed to Sudbury church from Dorchester. [1]
