About John de Clifford, 7th Baron Clifford

Notes: Knight of the Garter. Only three years old when his father died in 1391. He married Elizabeth Percy - Harry Hotspur's daughter, in 1404. John was summoned as a Baron to Parliament from 1411 and in 1413 he attended the coronation of Henry V and went with him to France. He took part in the siege of Harfleur and the Battle of Agincourt 1415 and he received the surrender of Cherbourg. John liked to joust and was wounded in the great tournament of Carlisle but he recovered and in 1421 he was elected knight of the garter. He returned to France only to be killed at the siege of Meaux in 1422. His body was brought home and buried at buried Bolton Abbey. He left two sons Thomas and Henry and two daughters, Mary and Blanche [Beatrice].

Sir John de Clifford, 7th Lord Clifford was born circa 1388. He was the son of Thomas de Clifford, 6th Lord Clifford and Elizabeth de Ros. He married Elizabeth Percy, daughter of Sir Henry Percy, Lord Percy and Elizabeth de Mortimer, between 1403 and 1412. He died on 13 March 1421/22 at Meaux, France, killed in action.

Sir John de Clifford, 7th Lord Clifford succeeded to the title of 7th Lord Clifford [E., 1299] on 18 August 1391. He fought in the Siege of Meaux.2He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) on 3 May 1421.

7th Baron Skipton. High Sheriff of Westmoreland. He took part in a great tournament at Carlisle between six English and six Scottish knights, and in the war in France. He was at the Siege of Harfleur and at the Battle of Agincourt, where he was indented to serve Henry V with 3 archers.[4] He accepted the surrender of Cherbourg. He was made a Knight of the Garter on 3 May 1421. He was a legatee in the will of his cousin, Henry V. Killed in battle at the Seige of Meaux, France.
