About Jonas Belton Avery
He bought land in New Milford, Penn., and removed thither about 1813. He became an inn-keeper and in the ball room of his log tavern the village school was kept. He lived to see the inconveniences of the border dwindle away before civilization.

He arrived in New Milford in 1811 with Ebenezer Avery, Park Avery, Franklin Avery, Robertson Wood, and Elisha Gray and their families. He bought "Sweet's Tavern" from Thomas Sweet and operated it for many years
