Jonas A. Troyer, age 88, 4573 TR 367, (Berlin) Millersburg, Ohio, died October 26, 2022 after a brief period of declining health. Jonas is survived by his wife, Edna Lucille Troyer.

Jonas is the son of Albert J. Troyer and Lovina (Gingerich) Troyer, born July 18, 1934. He is survived by one sister, Esther Miller (Cletus) of Martinsburg, Ohio, together with a deceased brother and sister: Alvin J. Troyer and Katie (Eli J.C.) Yoder.

Jonas and Edna are survived by two sons: James Ray (Katie) Troyer and John Robert (Jennifer Gail) Troyer. A daughter, Carmen Lynette Troyer, died a teen in a tragic auto accident. Eight grandchildren and one great grandchild are the family legacy of Jonas and Edna: Javen Dillon Troyer, Matthew Scott Troyer, Emily Rose Troyer, Tyler Jay Troyer, Amanda Marie (Troyer) Childress, Haley Lynn (Troyer) Guerra, Mitchell William Troyer, Olivia Rose Troyer and Amelia Rose Childress.

As a young man, Jonas was baptized and became a lifelong member of Pleasant View Mennonite Church. He then completed the three winter programs offered by Winter Bible School at Pleasant View. Another important experience of his life in the 1960’s was a two year voluntary service assignment as an orderly at Massillon City Hospital in the I-W Program for conscientious objectors to war. There is where he met the wonderful nurse, later to become his wife of 61 years, Edna Lucille Gardner.

In his business life, Jonas was involved in ownership of a number of local well known businesses which include Troyer Cheese, Amish Wedding Foods and Troyer Market. Another local contribution included being a charter member of the East Holmes Fire Department and EMT program.

Jonas cherished both new and old friendships. His favorite place to meet and share both food and conversation with buddies was Boyd and Wurthmann in the morning. His hobbies, especially in his retirement years, included hunting, fishing, hiking and a rather unique project that involved growing milkweed and hatching Monarch butterflies. For more than 20 years Jonas and Edna spent the winter months in Okeechobee, Florida, where many warm weather friendships were enjoyed.
