Research Notes

There has been numerous speculated stories, regarding Jonathan that have been recently proven incorrect. These stories listed below in disputed sources.

Jonathan's likely father is Daniel Blevins-3818 based on Montgomery, VA (military records) residency, and shared migratory path.

Jonathan was involved in the Loyalist Insurrection of 1779, and is named with father Daniel and brother Richard. "Blevins Men of the Revolution", page 6.

He appears on the 1782 Montgomery County Militia (updated list), under James McDaniel with brother Richard.

Jonathan appears on the 1783 Montgomery Militia lists, under Enoch Osborne, so does brother Richard. A second updated list includes Jonathon and brother Richard under John Cox. (these Militia records, "Blevins Men of the Revolution").

Jonathan married Charlotte (Lottie) Muse, a daughter of Richard Muse, a wealthy land agent in Virginia. Also noted Richard Muse served in Montgomery Militia under Capt. Newell. Richard Muse is documented in 1810 Pulaski, KY. Census, who may be Lottie's father or brother. (Pulaski borders Wayne County)

Jonathan was involved in the building of the (Buncombe) Burke Roads in 1788, with father Daniel and brothers John, Elisha, and Richard. (Washington County Court Pleas)

Jonathan's 1790 Burke N.C. Census, notes only 3 females, his wife and documented daughters' Polly Blevins-3694 Thomas and Lucretia Blevins-496 Cooper.

Polly Blevins-3694 Thomas is documented as the daughter of Jonathan, by given consent in her marriage to Alexander Thomas on 9 Dec 1807.

Jonathan is speculated to have died in Scott, Tennessee on 21 Mar 1830. Jonathan is last documented in Wayne County, Kentucky in 1830.

Disputed Sources

Disputed sources given for genealogy and Cherokee myth origins include; Speculated stories that state his children Jonathan Blevins-432 Jr, Elizabeth Blevins-437 have Cherokee origins come from disputed book "Shawnee Heritage, Vol I" by Don Greene. This also includes stories that wife Charlotte Muse is Cherokee. See "Shawnee Heritage Fraud".

This Cherokee myth is also perpetuated in Leslie (Les) Blevins book, "The Longhunters".

"Blevans - Burks History" - Ruth Blevans Ping, 1932, (proven incorrect in many aspects, with no true source of origin) also used in Leslie Blevins book "The Longhunters".
