Jonathan was a soldier. He shared in the ill-fated expedition against Quebec in 1690 with Sir William Phips. On August 24, 1688 he married Mary Hayward of Concord, Middlesex Co., Ma. They had three children, Hannah, Mary and Grace. On September 4, 1697 the Indians raided the town of Lancaster and killing Jonathan, Grace and Jonathan's younger brother Jonas. Grace was about seven years old at the time that she perished. Mary was taken away along with six others and held captive, but returned Jan. 17, 1699, on the Province Galley from Casco Bay.

Biography =="Jonathan FAIRBANKS dwelt somewhere near the southerly end of the George Hill range." He had shared the hardships of Major William PHIPS' expedition to Canada in 1690 which was ill-fated. Lancaster was represented among the sufferers in Sir William Phips' mismanaged and disastrous expedition against Canada. Endorsed on a list of Phips'

captains, in the Massachusetts Archives, xxxvi, 134, is." "In 1660 Major Simon Willard became a permanennt resident of Lancasterand by virtue of his office as Assistant, solemnized marriages. MajorSimon Willard Solemnized the Marriage of Jonathan Fairbank and Mary Hayward In 1688." "He died in the Raid on Lancaster, Sept 11, 1697 with his daughter Grace FAIRBANK. From his inventory he seems to have been a blacksmith. Two children, the oldest and youngest, escaped capture." His estate was settled by his brother, Jabez FAIRBANK. His tombstone reads: "Jonathan Fairbanks and his Daughter Grace Fairbanks Who Deceased September the 11th, 1697".

"Lt. Benjamin Willard of Lancaster and the names of five soldiers are known from a petition of their heirs, in 1738, for land grants, viz: Joseph Atherton, Jonathan Fairbank*, John Pope, Samuel Wheeler and Timothy Wheelock." Jonathan FAIRBANK Married Mary HAYWARD of Concord, Mass. on 24 AUG 1688 in Lancaster, Worcester, Mass. She married 2nd David WHITCOMB in 1770.
