  1. Jonathan is not in the Buckingham Township Property and Tax Records for 1779, nor is any other < WELLS >. He starts appearing a few years later as chronicled above. See: http://pagenweb.org/~bucks/TaxRecords/buckinghamtownshiptax.html
  2. Lead: Will of Henry Wells of Buckingham : Will 145 Adm.145 ; source: Index of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, wills and administration records, 1684 to 1850 ;Index of the Bucks County, Pennsylvania Wills and Administration Records. 1684 to 1850

    2. son: Joseph Wells 1693 • Warwick, Bucks DEATH BEFORE 7 NOV 1757 • Warrington, Bucks

    6. other candidate sons who either did not die in Bucks or don't have a death location... one of these is William Wells of New Britain

conclusions of research to date

  1. Jonathan Wells was found on GENi as a son of William and merged... More confirmation to absolutely establish this relationship is needed.
  2. It is perhaps a mistake to assign Valentine Wells ( born 1783) as a son of Jonathan as Jonathan was about 50 years old around the time of Valentine's conception. It could well be that Jonathan is Valentine's grandfather. icn_favorite.gif But then there is the chain of events about Jonathan and Mary "Polly" Wells in John Dyer's diary. Jonathan has to be close in age to John, We know Johns year of birth. Jonathan DOB has to be close to Dyer's (!)

not to be confused with

Jonathan Wells of Charlestown who was married to Ruth and lived in the same township in Chester Co. and died roughly in the same time period

Notes

  • said to have married Mary (née Rich) in Solebury, Bucks Co. and then later moved to Chester County.
  • the same person as Jonathan Wells who moved to Goshen, Chester County
  • looking below we see Mary (now Wells) as the admin. of Jonathan Wells of Goshen who died as shown:
    • Description: Decedent
    • Residence: Goshen
    • Date: 2 Jan 1805
    • Remarks: Wells, Jonathan. Goshen.

    • Mary Wells, Joseph Hoffman and John Brown, Jr. Administrators.
  • ~• Mary was also known as "Polly" > see this diary reference from Plumstead (dated April 22, 1797) This is a lead because both the Rich and Wells families had lived in Bucks County but then moved to Chester County = Pennsylvania Vital Records, Vol. II; Memoranda from the Diary of John Dyer of Plumstead, Bucks Co., Pa.; (page 43 of 841) > read more in discussion attached to this profile.
  • Jonathan Wells was a childhood friend and contemporary of John Dyer a man of Bucks County who famously wrote a lengthy diary that includes a number of details about Jonathan Wells and Mary "Polly" Wells (née Rich). These diary elements are incorporated into the timelines of the couple.
