About Joseph August Augsutin von Hermann
Joseph von Hermann was a medical doctor and supposedly held the official position of "village doctor" in Inzersdorf am Wienerberg, a village on the outskirts of the city of Vienna (Austria).
He started his medical career as an assistant at the "Lehrkanzel für Staatsheilkunde" (Faculity for State Medicine). From 1858 to 1888 Joseph was chair and Primararzt of the departement of Syphilis at the now defunct Wiedner Krankenhaus in Vienna. Additionally, he was chief physician of the "Wienerberger Ziegelfabriks- und Baugesellschaft" and a recipient of the Order of Franz Joseph, which was awarded for civil merits.
He possessed a big property in Inzersdorf, which was a minimum of 2,25 hectares (5.55 acres) big. On 31 July 1850, Dr. Joseph Hermann had purchased this parcel N° 26. Noted to be in the municipal council of Inzersdorf for the electoral period 1879-1882 (Source: Georg Freund (1882). Inzersdorf am Wienerberge. Historisch-topografische Darstellung des Ortes und seiner Bestandtheile vom Ursprunge bis in die neuste Zeit. page 83)
Nowadays, there is a pedestrian and bike way next to the river Liesing which is called "Hermannsweg" ("Hermann Way"). It is assumed to be named after a medic called Josef Hermann, however the historic street name commission of Vienna has not verified yet that this person is identical with Joseph August von Hermann.
