About Joseph Doty

Parents: Joseph & Sarah Doty He was born in Oyster Bay, NY in 1708. He was receipted for his share of father's estate & received 178 L, on May 6, 1729. He moved to NY and served as a private in Capt. Charles Laroex's Company, NY Militia.

Later moved to Dutchess County and settled at Crum Elbow area where he married in 1744, to Lucretia DeLong. The DeLongs were settlers there & her father Francis Delong appears in colonial Dutch records. (District known as Charlotte)

Joseph was a blacksmith & about 1769 the family moved to Lansingburg, Rensselaer Co, NY.

June 5 1767: Joseph Doty Blacksmith of Crum Elbow, Dutchess Co, NY mortgage land there. March 8, 1769: Joseph Doty, blacksmith & his wife of Cashea of Charlotte, sell lots there, being part of nine partners to Samuel Smith, Jr of Jamaica, Queens Co & Melanethon Smith of Charlotte.
