Reed states " That there were a large number of Durfeys ... descendants of Joseph and Ann (should be Abigail) (Buck) Durfey, which tradition claims to be descendants of Thomas Durfee. " <p>Abigail Buck was born June 28, 1732, in Somers, Tolland County, CT. Her death date and place are not certain. A family group sheet in the LDS Library in Salt Lake City states that Abigail (Buck) Durfey died June 9, 1774. I have found no record of her death and suspect that this is probably wrong. <p>Abigail and her brother Jedediah were baptized in Somers on April 4, 1735. From the History of Enfield, by Allen. S. 1850 mortality census of Tolland County, CT, there was listed Rebecca Durfey, a pauper, born in 1789 and died in Tolland County in November 1849. It is not known what relationship, if any, there was between her and Joseph's family. <p>In 1985, Mrs. Vilate (Durfee) McBride, Bountiful, Davis County, UT, sent me photo copies of pages 154-157, and pages 178-181 from a book authored by Archibald Bennett, bearing the title The Later-Day Saints Family, The Family Group Record. The book is about genealogical research for religious purposes and the reason that it is of interest is that the author elected to use the descendants of John Durfey to illustrate the correct method of researching ancestors. He cautioned researchers that there are many errors in the Archives and that all information should be verified. In Chapter Forty-three, "Records Truly Made Out", the author states that records, dated 1913, in the Archives (Morman Church baptism and endowment records) for John Durfey and Miss Foster state that John was born about 1715, in Ireland and Miss Foster was born about 1717, in England. He further stated that their children were John of Rhode Island, James of Rhode Island, Joseph Durfey who married Abigail Buck, Benjamin, born in Connecticut, and Molly, born in Connecticut, who married Ebenezer Dean (Dain). Archibald did not give the name of the person who prepared the sheet nor did he give that person's sources.
