Joseph Estabrook, III

Town clerk, treasurer, selectman, assessor, surveyor, representative to the general court. Commanded a military company, taught first man's school in Lexington, he was extremely educated, Deacon in 1716 He married second Hannah Loring widow of Higham first settler Hingham dismissed to church in Lexington 1710 An active and influential citizen deacon 1716 and held many offices.

Epitaph reads:

"Here Lyes Buried ye body of Capt. Joseph Easterbrook (son of ye Rvd Mr Joseph Easterbrook of Concord.) He was many years deacon of ye church of Christ in Lexington and by using the office well obtained a good report. He Departed this life Sept 24, Anno Dom 1733 Aetatis Sume 65

Joseph and Hannah settled in Hingham and joined with the church there. They later moved to Lexington, Massachusetts. Bought two hundred acres of land in the precinct in 1693, and was elected to office in 1696. It is probable that he moved nears these dates. He also, bought a farm of Edward Pelham, then of Rhode Island, and is described in the deed as being bounded northeasterly by Cook farm and southwesterly by Concord road until it comes to vine brook. It was quite near the Green on the Lexington-Concord road.

He was an active and influential member of the Chruch at Lexington and represented it on many public occasions. He was elected deacon in 1716, he remained in that office until his death.

He was highly respected as a townsman and filled the office of the town clerk, treasurer, assessor, selectman, and representative to the general court. He commanded a military company and was given rank of captain in 1712. The military men of that day were leading men of the town. He was a man of more than ordinary education for that day, was often employed as a surveyor, and was engaged to teach the first man's school in the town. He was paid fifteen pounds for teaching five months. He was engaged to teach the first man's school in the town.
