Joseph Gill, a former resident of Red Bank, died at his home between Oceanic and Seabright, on Sunday, aged 86 years. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at two o'clock at Grace church. The service was conducted by Rev. Holmes F. Gravatt and Rev. C. E. Hill. The body was buried in the Little Silver cemetery. Mr. Gill was born in England. He came to this country in 1851 and started in the shoemaking business. A few years later he opened a baker shop on Front street on the site where Hesse's ice cream saloon now stands. He was burned out in 1881 and Mr. Gill then opened a baker shop on Wallace street, which he conducted until a few years ago, when he retired from business. He was married twice. His first wife died about twenty years ago. His second wife was Miss Elmira Thompson of New York. She died about five years ago. Two sons survive him. They are Frank Gill of Brooklyn and Harry Gill of Red Bank. Source: Red Bank Register, Wednesday, Mar 14, 1900
