About Joseph Hills, Jr.

Looks like this whole family (Joseph Hill/Hills Jr. and Sr., and Rose Clark/Cleerke/Clarke) came together to America after the birth of Joseph Hills Jr., which was 1629.

("Note: This branch up from John Barrett b. 1704 is somewhat speculative in that I (as well as some others who appear responsible) have made a bit of a best guess that the wife of that John was Dorothy Lynde. Even though she was as much as 12 years older than him.")

Some suggestion that this Joseph married his step-sister Hannah, since this Joseph's father Samuel had been married to Hannah's mother (also named Hannah). See entry for the elder Hannah.

From Historic homes and places and genealogical and personal memoirs relating to the families of Middlesex County, Massachusetts By William Richard Cutter:

Joseph Hills, son of Joseph Hills (i), was baptized in Great Burstead, Billericay, Essex, England, August 2, 1629. and died at Maiden, Massachusetts, April 19, 1674. The inventory of his estate shows a house and about fifty acres of land in Maiden and about sixty acres to be laid out in Billerica, Massachusetts. He married Hannah Smith, who died at Maiden, July 11, 1674.
